This is a place you go for real Hawaiian food. Not no white washed food, homestyle has the best food. They even have dole whips

So this review is long over due. We've been at this location several times. The level of service is never the same. This month alone- we've attempted to call in our order so we can pick up. I have a newborn at home so it's convenient to call in and then just pick up but on 3 different days 3 different times and multiple attempts... the line has been busy. I understand it can get so busy especially at lunch time but they need to correct it. Either post on site that no call in orders or just don't post a phone number. Just saying. We've eaten at the location at lunch before and they would only be one employee up front. I'm very understanding but the owners need to hire more or plan to have another employee be there to help. He was so busy, making lemonades, taking orders and doing everything that it's understood why the phone is busy... he probably has no time to answer and take orders either. Some customers were annoyed and we were just trying to be patient. It's not his fault he didn't have help. Another customer issue we had was ordering food for a party (party plate/catering). We ordered to pick up for a specific time but we ended up showing up to pick up about 30 minutes late, you would think it's be more than ready but it was still not ready! Well, one of the orders wasn't ready. We waited almost another 20 minutes or so. When my boyfriend went down to get it he saw the tray on top of the counter opened- semi full and so he was thinking that because we didn't show up on time, they were picking on it to serve the other patrons who ordered the same thing and they were probably cooking more to replace it. Idk but we gave them more than enough notice and even showed up late for pick up: it should've been more than ready.
On food review it flavors have been pretty good but portions have changed over the years. Poke was one of our faves and it has decreased and containers has changed and we are paying the same for leas quantity. Taste is the same just paying a lot for a small portion. Korean chicken is another favorite. Also, pretty good. But also we find sometimes it's there's less meat. The shrimp I hear also have become smaller in size when they used to be jumbo. The lemonade is good but be prepared to wait... again- no help. The dole machine is on and off.. sometimes it's out of service. So overall. Food flavor is worth 2 1/2 stars but I just gave it 3. Everything else: thumbs down. Not making it personal to the workers because if you don't get the support from the upper Managment/ owner- the employee can just do the best they can. -

I called put on hold for ever, so I arrived and they were helping a to go order. Never said hello be right with you. Waiting and waiting. So we just walked out. There was other customer waiting for their lemonade and ice cream. They weren't that busy.
Lacking customer service. The time was 7:20 pm. -

Food was really good and quick. The Kalbi beef was flavorful and had the perfect char. And the Dole Whip was refreshing. Menu was simple and I appreciated a different cuisine.

Homestyle Hawaiian will always have a special place in my heart. I was a regular at their Mesa College location. I've visited this spot before as well about a year or two ago and found myself back here again just recently. The food is still good but the sizes and portions seems smaller than it used to be. I got the shrimp scampi and as far as I can remember, every time I would get one before, there was this huge "woah factor". This time, I was a bit disappointed. The shrimps were smaller and the portions as well. The good thing is, the taste is still there. Maybe I just came in the wrong day and the shrimps they had in stock was not what they usually have.
Also, the prices are still high for a to-go counter. $12-15 per plate. I just think that's more of a sit-down restaurant prices.
